  • Competition Members:
    • Be willing to commit to a full season sport
    • Be able to perform Beginner Detroit Style moves
    • Be willing to work with a Coach

    Performance Members:

    12 years and under:
    • Be willing to work with a Coach
    • Be able to balance on skates
    • Have skates with toe stops
    • Be willing to learn and perform within the season

    13 years and over:
    • Must try out
    • Must be at an Intermediate level Detroit style skater
    • Must commit to a full season of learning and performing
    • Must be willing to work with a Coach

  • Membership dues are $25 / month. This fee helps to cover travel fees, practice rental fees, costume design, and more.

  • There are many rinks in the metro Detroit area that offer drop-in lessons for all ages and all skill levels. Reach out to your local rink directly and they’ll get you more information.

  • Culture Roll is a competitive roller skating sport, under USA Roller Sports that gives style skating, a national competition structure they've historically lacked. Each style keeps its own individuality and history while connecting under one unified Culture Roll umbrella. Long-term vision includes Olympic recognition.

    Why it exists: Culture Roll protects style skating culture while creating opportunity. It's a sport that provides the platform to compete, their styles, nationally.

    What it does:

    • Preserves the culture (documents and honors regional skate style history)

    • Creates opportunity (visibility, coaching, judging, sponsorship, national and global representation, a path toward Olympic competition)

    • Builds fair standards (standardized judging without erasing individuality)

    • Unites communities (one national structure, many styles, each keeping its own identity)

  • Performance team skaters must audition with competency in the following Detroit Style Intermediate Required Moves:

  • Competition members will compete in the Local Detroit Style qualifier, and if they place 1st, 2nd or 3rd, they will move on to the Regional Competition. This applies to Regionals as well — placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd advances a member to the National Competition, which ends the competition season.

  • The club offers several opportunities throughout the season for performing, including but not limited to fundraiser skate parties, the annual tribute performance show, etc.

  • Rinks in the metro Detroit area. Coaches are matched with members that skate at the same rink and sessions.

  • Practices vary depending on discipline (Performance or Competition). A coach is assigned to work with members 3 hours (or more) weekly. Practices increase closer to performances or competitions as required.
